Big City Life

Big City Life

It didn’t look like I would ever get to an end with this post. I started writing on it last summer when I got back from my coaching stint in the Florida Keys. But kept adding and changing things ever since. This post allowed me to sort my ideas and figure out what I want to do in the future. Putting in all of what happened in those now almost four years in Geneva was impossible but believe most of it wasn’t that exciting anyway.

Things have been pretty crazy the last year (and a half) to say the least. From going through the first part of my training in the Swiss Army, coming back to Geneva and working my way back in the pool under the guidance of Benjamin Paris with the Lancy Swim Team, coaching the Florida Keys Swim Team for a summer to again coming back to Geneva to follow a packed study schedule to eventually graduate (by the end of July 2010).

FGC Open Invitational 2010

The four athletes from the Philippines I was coaching during my two weeks with the Race Club went to the FGC Open Invitation last weekend (February 20 – 21) held at the city of Plantation Central Park Pool. Checking on their results last night I was happy to see they all did well. Dorothy swept …

Workout Friday Jan 22

Last Friday, Jan 22, I had to go through a test set which I thought was one of the better main sets I recently did. So that’s why I wanted to share this workout with you. I did swim fly but you can really do this in any other stroke of your choice. Let me know what you think. And of course if you did take the set and go through, let me know how you did. Download the PDF file at ProSwimWorkouts.com to get the full workout.

Tenerife Flume Channel

Short video of me swimming fly at slow speed in the flume channel at the Tenerife Top Training. Please be patient as it may take a moment for the video to load before it will start to play.

Tenerife Day Five

First things first … Merry Christmas! Today was a big day. No gym work but a three hour session in the morning and swimming in the flume after the workout. And of course back for anther two hours in the afternoon. With our rest day coming up tomorrow both of those workouts were filled with pace sets and pretty hard.

The channel (flume) swim was pretty cool. It was my first time doing this and I look forward to get the video analysis and learn a lot more about my strokes. Also I’ll be able to do another session in the channel next week to compare my two swims. I will try post at least some pictures of next week’s swim or maybe even better a short video.

Tenerife Day Four

Another day waking up with rain outside. They told us that it usually rains about four days a year and this was our third, so we’re positive it will be better soon. We keep sticking to the daily schedule and with two swimming and one gym session planned for this day there was plenty of quality workout time ahead.

We’re still keeping it rather low profile in the water going the distance and a couple fast 50’s mixed in. During the gym session we tried to take advantage of the new technology machines they have and did some strength tests. It was a pretty rough session but as most of the time I felt pretty good in the water afterwards.

Tenerife Day Three

Starting to get used to the daily routine here in Tenerife. Morning wake up at 7 am and a short breakfast before leaving for morning workout. Again not really nice weather this morning and rather cold water at the pool. But again, as we’re using those two weeks to build up a basis for next year, we stay mostly warm after a couple minutes of warm-up.

I forgot to tell you yesterday that the pool here is a salt water pool. That’s pretty cool and I really like the feel of it. No gym work on the program today so I went to the “Stretching Room” after the morning workout and enjoyed the Ocean view.
