This entry is part 10 of 18 in the series Race Club Diaries

My time here in Islamorada is almost over. At the time I am writing this diary entry, there are only a few more days left and then I have to go back to Switzerland (in the winter!). I feel very much “at home” here and I know I will miss everybody and everything!

But before I leave, I want to tell you what’s about The Race Club and how it makes me feel. I found a good example to explain what exactly is going on when you may once be in Islamorada as part of one of the Fantasy Camps. You may or you may not know the TV-Show Pimp My Ride. So let me give you a short introduction to this TV-show.

Pimp My Ride is a TV-show originally shown on MTV. The concept is simple — they take a car which is old, thought to be unfashionable, falling apart, or some combination thereof and WWC (West Coast Custom) “pimp” it.

Each car is a custom “pimp”, tailored to the personalities and interests of the owners. Work usually includes new paint, accessories, chrome, tires and rims, and internal electronics (even, and especially, DVD players, video games, TFT screens of excessive size and other top notch gadgets).

However, WCC is well-known for putting their own whimsical touches in their work. Much of the appeal of the show comes from the personalities involved. The WCC employees are an eclectic mix of outgoing personalities, such as:

  • the appropriately named Big Dane,
  • electronics (and outrageous engineering) expert Mad Mike,
  • tough-looking interior and fabric maven Ish, and
  • the heavily pierced tire-specialist Alex.

And this show is pretty much how I feel about the work that is done here in Islamorada by The Race Club people. No matter what kind of swimmer you are, Masters, young talent, world class swimmer, or just a “fun” swimmer, they will give you everything you need.

You will have personalized workouts but besides you are going to do exactly the same stuff all The Race Club athletes usually do. Your technique will be analyzed and you may even have feedback from one of The Race Club athletes (if they are training in Islamorada at this time). And not to forget, you will do gym work with one of the best strength coaches in the world.

In a few words: In this week you will run through the best training program in the world!

So, if you’re looking for the ultimate experiences in your swimming career don’t wait – sign up for one of the fantastic Fantasy Camps with The Race Club in Islamorada and get your swim pimped!

For me, there is only one more thing that needs to be written down. I want to thank all the TRC team for working so hard with me and pimpin’ my swim!
